K-POP sensation gets bigger than ever in India

- 3rd edition of K-POP India Festival is magnificent than previous year’s

- Close to 170 contestants battled to be the next KPOP 2014 India Star

New Delhi, June 2014: Korean Cultural Centre presents the 3rd edition of globally popular music phenomenon, K-POP 2014 festival in India. The latest edition of K-POP India festival received an overwhelming response from its fans pan-India. Close to 130 entries were registered through an online contest. Out of which 13 participants from both song & dance category (in both solo & group performances) were shortlisted in the preliminary round basis the on-ground auditions in various cities over the period of 2 months. The winners from city specific auditions will now perform at the finale which will be held in Delhi on 30thAugust 2014 at Siri Fort Auditorium. The cities which witnessed the grandeur and craze of K- POP were Chennai, Dimapur, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The festival also gives a change to the Kpop Indian fans to not only meet but also witness the first ever live performance by the Kpop sensation, N-Sonic. N-Sonic, a popular South Korean all boys band is a true depiction of Kpop culture. The band of six boys; J. Heart, Sihoo, Byeol, Minkee, Black J and Zion, are skillful and talented in both singing and dancing genre. Having performed all over the world, the band has also been honored to be the Ambassador for prestigious events like, The 16th Boryeong "Mud Festival", Child Protection Project "Rainbow Project". 

The festival invites all the K- POP lovers around India to join the global competition and celebration of Korean popular song and dance. K- POP is a part of celebrations of Indo-Korean relation. It’s an initiative to strengthen the cultural ties between the two Asian countries. K-POP Contest provides a platform to the participants to prove their mettle in Korean singing and dancing. K-POP is a musical genre originally from South Korea that is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements. It is a modern form of South Korean pop music covering mostly dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R&B, etc. The K-POP musical movement started in Korea in 1990s and has boomed the world through ‘Korean Wave’. Today, K-POP has entrenched itself as a bona fide phenomenon in Asia and is rapidly extending its reach to new markets.

The winners of Indian edition will not only be honored with all paid trip to Korea, but will also get a chance to represent India in the globally popular and prestigious K Pop Festivals, K-Pop World Festival 2014 which will be taking place in the month of October and Incheon Korea Music Wave 2014, which will be held on 17th September in Incheon Metropolitan City. The K Pop Festival in Incheon 2014 is organized by Visit Korea Committee to celebrate Incheon Asian Games 2014. The Indian winner from dancing category will have to compete with winners from 15 selected Countries in Incheon KPOP festival and the Indian winner from song category will be nominated to participate and compete with winners from all over the world in KPOP world festival to be held in Changwon, South Korea for the K-POP 2014 title.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Kim Kum-pyoung, Director, Korean Cultural Centre, stated, “There is no dearth of talent in India and I am thrilled to see the increasing crazy for Korean pop culture in India. This shows that Korean Wave has finally arrived in India. I feel proud to share that the response we received this year for Kpop contest is four times bigger than the first edition which was in 2012.” He further added, “We are over whelmed by the enthusiasm shown by young Indians for K-POP 2014. I hope this gets bigger by each passing year.”

Eminent jury members who will be judging the winners at the finale event will be Mr. Nitin Mallik of Parikrama fame, Mr. Ham Sihoo (Sihoo) and Mr. Kwon Jaehwan (J-Heart) from N-Sonic band, Mr. Kim jin Eog, president of JU entertainment, Mr. Kim Kum-pyoung, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre and Mr. Byungsun Lee, Director of Korean Tourism organization. Korea Cultural Centre

The Korea Cultural Centre is the first of its kind in South Asia, operates under the Embassy of the Republic of India. The Korea Cultural Centre is situated in New Delhi, opened its doors to the public on 13th December 2012. The centre will serve as a platform for artists and intellectuals from both countries to come together and showcase their talent. It houses the Sejong Institute for Korean Language and Taekwondo Academy. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including a Library, Exhibition Hall, Korean Café, a Korean Cultural Experience room and Noraebang (Korean Karaoke). Through regular cultural programs, exhibitions and film screening, the centre provides insight into the rich cultural heritage of Korea.
