On 22nd November 2019 (Friday), Korean Cultural Centre India inaugurated ‘Tall Storey: An exhibition on high-rise living in Korea and India’ exhibition at the Baek Nam June Hall. The event was inaugurated by H.E. Mr Shin Bong-kil (Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India), Mr Kim Kum Pyoung (Director, Korean Cultural Centre India), Ms Yang Seunghee (Urbanist), and Ms Manasvini Hariharan (Architect & Urban Planner).
The exhibition is envisaged and curated by Ms Yang Seunghee, Urbanist and Ms Manasvini Hariharan, Architect & Urban Planner. They both are part of Yangji Co., Ltd. A company which has worked on the research, planning, design, supervision, safety diagnosis and management of national infrastructure in South Korea since its establishment in 2000.
'Tall storey' presents the architecture of housing in the two sister cities: Seoul and Delhi. Two cities whose traditions of housing were easily distinguishable a century ago now has a common expression in the urban fabric - the tall, apartment typology. Not only are the two cities the capitals of their countries, they also share a similar history.
The event began with the felicitation of our esteemed guest with bouquet followed by encouraging speeches of H. E. Ambassador Mr Shin Bong-kil, Ms Yang Seunghee and Ms Manasvini Hariharan.
Delhi is now riding the "Ollagada" wave. It’s the high-rise apartment that is bringing the similarity between these two cities back. 'Tall storey' is a simple documentation of that evolution.
The exhibition will be on display till 3rd January 2020 at Baek Nam June Hall, Korean Cultural Centre India.
