Discover Korea with KTO : 천제연 폭포(Cheonjeyeon Falls)

Cheonjeyeon Falls, named "The Pond of God", consists of 3 sections. Around the falls, a variety of plant life thrives, such as the rare 'Solimnan' reeds. To the east, there is a cave where cold water pours from the ceiling to create the first waterfall. The water gathers into a pool and from there, falls two more times, creating the second and third waterfalls, which then flow into the sea. In Cheonjeyeon Valley, visitors can see Seonimgyo Bridge (arch bridge with 7 nymphs carved on the side) and the octagonal Cheonjeru Pavilion. Seonimgyo Bridge is also called Chilseonyeogyo, meaning "seven nymphs bridge", and it connects Cheonjeyeon Falls with Jungmum Tourist Complex. On the surface of Cheonjeru Pavilion, there is a painting that tells Cheonjeyeon’s legend of the seven nymphs and the mountain god. In May of every even-numbered year, the Chilseonyeo Festival is held here.

Korean New Generation Pianist Ⅱ: HJ Lim

Unique and Different!!
HJ Lim has a reputation for playing based on her own unique interpretation, unlike the existing players. These performances are sometimes controversial in the conservative classical industry, but she is forming her colorful, energetic and original pianism. HJ Lim was twelve years old to decide to go to France to study piano and at nineteen, she graduated from a prestigious music school CNSM de Paris, studying with Henri Barda and Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barako. Upon graduation, HJ Lim became a famous pianist on Youtube. The following year, she signed a contract with EMI Classic, released her first album – Beethoven Complete Sonata. Her‘s Beethoven Sonata was well received by The New York Times, BBC Music, and Telegraph. It is the first Korean classical pianist to be ranked first on the Billboard Classic Chart. And, she released 2nd album with the repertoires of Ravel and Scriabin. Not only as a pianist,  she is also looking forward to her sidewalk, showing her talent in various fields.

Rachmaninoff : Piano Concerto No 1 & 2

This performance in 2014, Barcelona is the most controversial performance of hers. The audience may think that the pianist has failed to communicate with the orchestra. But, it was a totally different and dramatic interpretation ever for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concertos. Particularly, in the case of the introduction of the 1st movement of N.2, incredibly addictive.

HOBAKJEON
(Pan-fried Summer Squash)

Hobakjeon is a dish of pre-marinated summer squash(Zucchini) that is coated with wheat flour and egg wash then pan-fried. It may also be fried with meat stuffing. In olden days,hobakjeon was fried with no coating or only wheat flour coating.

-300 g (medium 1 ea) summer squash(Zucchini) (season with 2 g (½ teaspoons) salt, 5 g (⅓ ea) green pepper, 5 g (¼ ea) red pepper )
-28 g (4 tablespoons) wheat flour
-120 g (2 ea) egg
-0.5 g (⅛ teaspoons) salt
-39 g (3 tablespoons) cooking oil
-vinegar soy sauce made with 18 g (1 tablespoon) soy sauce, 15 g (1 tablespoon) vinegar, 15 g (1 tablespoon) water

Preparation

1 Wash the summer squash cleanly, slice it into 0.6 cm-thick
2 Marinate the squash with salt for 10 minutes and pot dry (260 g)
3 Cut the green/red pepper into 0.1cm-thick roundly and seed by shaking (green pepper 4 g, red pepper 4 g).
4 Beat egg and mix with salt.
5 Blend vinegar soy sauce.

Recipe

1 Coat the squash slices with wheat flour and beaten egg.
2 Preheat the frying pan and oil, set the heat to medium and panfry the squash slices for 2 minutes When bottom side is well-done, turn over, garnish with the green/red pepper, fry for 1 minutes
3 Serve with vinegar soy sauce.

TIP Pay attention to control the heat. If the heat is too high, squash may be burnt, but too low, absorb oil too much.

인싸 (In-Ssa) : Insider(인사이더)
아싸 (Aa-Ssa) : Outsider(아웃사이더)

인싸(In-Ssa) describes a person who is always inside of a group,
outgoing and following trend. 'Social Butterfly' in English

아싸(Aa-Ssa) describes a person who is always outside of a group
and prefers being alone. 'Wallflower' or 'Loner' in English.
However it has less negative nuance in Korea.

BONUS WORD : 핵인싸(Haek In-Ssa)
핵(nuclear, refering 'huge' or 'very much') + 인싸(Insider) = Super outgoing person
